SK Telecom vs KT vs LG U+: A Foreigner’s Practical Comparison

All three major carriers can work well. The better question is which one fits your documents, neighborhood, support needs and monthly habits.

Korea’s three major mobile carriers are mature networks. For most residents, the decision is less about finding a “bad” carrier and more about finding the least friction.

SK Telecom

SK Telecom publishes English documentation for foreign customers, including required identification and specific study/employment plans. It also documents prepaid service for people using a passport. That transparency is valuable when you are new.

KT

KT markets “Welcome” plans and foreigner prepaid options. Current product pages show international-calling benefits on some plans and multilingual support for foreign-customer products.

LG U+

LG U+ has dedicated Global plan categories, including plans with international-call allowances. Its official site exposes foreigner filters alongside standard plan categories.

What should decide it?

Check reception in your actual home and workplace, the current plan price, foreigner documentation requirements, language support, contract discounts, and whether the plan works with the Korean identity services you expect to use.

Vida note

Carrier comparisons get old quickly. Your address and your paperwork are more useful than somebody else’s ranking.
